Hi Ela,
edit /src/config/general.h line 38:
change #undef NET_PROTO_IPV6 --> #define NET_PROTO_IPV6
to enable IPV6 protocol
Compile iPXE: make bin-x86_64-efi/ipxe.efi
Configure your DHCP, TFTP, HTTP servers. Enable DHCP IPV6!
You might find some useful hints here: https://xrdocs.io/software-management/tutorials/2016-07-27-ipxe-deep-dive/
My setup currently fails here (copied from site above):
"if exists dhcp6.user-class and substring(option dhcp6.user-class, 2, 4) = "iPXE" {
option dhcp6.bootfile-url = "http://[fd:30::172:30:0:22]/ncs5k-mini-4";"
because it seems that "dhcp6.user-class" (option 15) simply does not exist.
You need that sequence to break the boot loop.
At least this code snippet in my dhcpd6.conf (Ubuntu 16.04, ISC DHCP Server) does not result in any output in my logs while other logging commands do work:
if exists dhcp6.user-class {
log ( info, "DHCPEXTLOG for user-class 15 ");
}
But my environment simultaneously uses IPV4 and IPV6. The config file downloads via IPV4 while the primary download of ipxe.efi is done via IPV6.
Therefor I should not send my faulty? setup to you :-(
mit freundlichen Grüßen
with kind regards
i. A. Dipl.Ing. (FH) Frank Hummel

Thanks Michael and oliver.
Can you provide any procedure link to bring up iPXE + Ipv6 UEFI + windows boot client ?
This will help to start with iPXE environment.

Hi Ela,
ipxe is able to boot via IPv6 (its optional and has to be compiled in!).
Be aware that Ipv6 Windows boot is possible only for Windows 8 and later. Win7 and earlier cannot boot via IPv6.
Hth,
Oliver
