[ipxe-devel] ESXi guest chainboot slowness

I know there are faster ways (e.g. replacing the VM's nic rom), but I was
wondering why chainloading ipxe from their virtualized e1000 produces
something excruciatingly slow.  There are a few milliseconds of traffic,
then exactly one second of silence, then a few milliseconds of traffic, then
another period of exactly one second, and so on.  Is there something that
could be done iPXE side to overcome those one second pauses?  I think I've
seen it on one hardware vendor's firmware as well, but I can't remember and
the vmware configuration is probably more accessible.
