[ipxe-devel] chaining http script over VLAN is very slow

Sorry to clarify. It doesn't work in UEFI mode with an interface that only has tagged VLANs. With the system attached to a port on untagged VLANs it does work.

----- Original Message -----

| The ipxe.efi file does not work with this hardware at all seemingly. When
| booting ipxe.efi I get error http://ipxe.org/err/7f11e094

| I've updated all the firmware on the machine included BIOS and UEFI firmware
| and iPXE simply doesn't work with this system in UEFI mode. It does however
| work in BIOS mode and so I've decided to continue on in that mode on this
| particular system until I can do further testing at some other time. If
| there are any tests that you would like me to run I would need to attempt to
| run them by the end of day today.

| | Hi James,
|

| | Snponly uses the firmwares own driver, just like with UNDI it's not likely
| | that vlan works.
|
| | You will probably want to use the full ipxe.efi instead since it have
| | native
| | drivers for many cards, but still with snp/nii fallback.
|
| | Without using the native drivers in ipxe, you are in the mearsy of the
| | manufacturers undi/snp/nii stack that is most likely not tested with any
| | kind of vlan.
|

| | | | | UNDI
| | | | | VLAN support is very spotty vendor to vendor within the UNDI stack.

| | | | | | I have a Dell R730XD which seems to be misbehaving. When booting
| | | | | | off
| | | | | | a
| | | | | | VLAN
| | | | | | it seems that the connection is extremely slow. The script that is
| | | | | | embedded
| | | | | | is very simple and after 10 minutes it still hasn't booted to the
| | | | | | menu
| | | | | | system, which is again very small scripts. Any idea what I might be
| | | | | | able
| | | | | | to
| | | | | | do to provide you with more information to troubleshoot it?

| | | | The Dell R730XD comes equipped with a quad port Broadcomm BCM5720 PCI-E

| | | | in
| | | | BIOS mode later today to see if it behaves any differently, but
| | | | ultimately
| | | | I'd rather have it in UEFI mode.
